Call Congress and Say “Do Your Job”

Later this week, Congress may do something it has failed to do for the ten months we have been fighting our latest war in Iraq and Syria: debate and vote on the war. While America has dropped thousands of bombs, deployed 3,500 troops, and spent billions of dollars in our latest war, Congress has failed to perform its most basic responsibility to debate and vote on the war in Iraq and Syria. It is simply unconscionable that we are asking our men and women in uniform to risk their lives in a war that Congress is too cowardly to vote on.

Luckily, Reps. Jim McGovern (D-MA), Walter Jones (R-NC), and Barbara Lee (D-CA), are standing up to demand that Congress do its job. They just introduced a resolution,H.Con.Res.55, which would force the House of Representatives to debate and vote on the war. The House could vote on the resolution as early as this week, so we need you to reach out to your Representative today and ask them to support this important piece of legislation!

Call your Representative and say, “Do your job; vote against endless war.”

You can reach your Representative via the Capitol switchboard, (202) 224-3121 (to confirm who your Representative is, click here). Ask the operator to put you through to your Representative, and then tell the person who takes your call:

  • “Please SUPPORT H.Con.Res.55. This bipartisan resolution would force Congress to debate the use of military force in Iraq and Syria.”
  • “Congress needs to fulfill its constitutional duty of debating and voting on this war. I hope you will SUPPORT H.Con.Res.55.”

Please urge your Representative to support the McGovern-Jones-Lee resolution. Call the Capitol at (202) 224-3121.

The McGovern-Jones-Lee Resolution would force Congress to vote on the war in Iraq and Syria, and, importantly, if Congress continues to shirk its constitutional duty, it would bring our troops home. In the words of Rep. McGovern, “if this House doesn’t have the stomach to carry out its constitutional duty to debate and authorize this latest war, then we should bring our troops home. If the cowardly Congress can go home each night to their families and loved ones, then our brave troops should receive that same privilege.”

However one feels about this latest war in the Middle East, we can all agree that it is long past time for Congress to do its job and finally debate and vote on the war in Iraq and Syria.

Tell your Representative to Support H.Con.Res.55. Call (202) 224-3121 today!
