Trump’s New Muslim Ban is as Unconstitutional as Ever

Washington – Win Without War Executive Director Sara Haghdoosti made the following statement in response to the announcement of a new travel ban by the Trump administration:
“We unequivocally condemn the Trump administration’s racist and unconstitutional travel ban, a new iteration of his Muslim Ban. No matter how he dresses them up, this ban and the bans Trump tried in his first term all amount to the same thing: a white nationalist immigration policy that aims to redefine our country for the worse.
“This ban is firmly based in xenophobia, racism, and hatred. The demonization of Muslims has been a running thread since President Trump first ran for office and its goal is singular–to uphold white supremacy and divide everyday people.
“My family was impacted by Trump’s first term bans, and will likely be affected by this ban as well. The hours of lost sleep over when you will see your relatives again are personal to me. So is the heartbreak of people you love missing out on weddings, birthdays, graduations, funerals, and even critical medical treatment. No one in my family or in anyone else’s should be the target of this cruel policy just because of where they were born.
“The targeting of people from Afghanistan under this ban is particularly deplorable. Brave Afghans who risked their lives to support the U.S. during the Afghanistan War have been left behind, forced to live in constant fear under the Taliban as they struggle through the inefficient and ineffective visa system. Trump’s order includes a narrow carveout for Afghans already holding Special Immigrant Visas, but the tens of thousands of eligible Afghans mired in the application process are still subject to this unjust ban.
“We call on the Trump administration to immediately repeal this horrific ban and call on Congress to pass the NO BAN Act (S.398) to ensure that such a violation of basic human rights is never again possible.”
