Congress Can Reject Trump’s Illegal, Immoral Arms Sale

Washington – Ahead of the Senate’s votes on S.J.Res.26 and S.J.Res.33, to block a series of arms sales to the Israeli government, Win Without War Executive Director, Sara Haghdoosti, released the following statement:
“Israeli forces have used U.S.-supplied bombs to target residential buildings, markets, churches, and hospitals. These are not isolated incidents — they form a devastating pattern that demands accountability. In multiple cases, U.S.-origin weapons have been found at the scene of strikes that wiped out entire families.
“Today, those bombs are being used in an offensive that Israeli government ministers have explicitly said is meant to drive Palestinians from their homes and seize large swaths of Gaza. This campaign of ethnic cleansing is a clear prelude to implementing President Trump’s vile plan to permanently evict Palestinians from Gaza and turn it into a playground for the uber-wealthy – a plan that spells disaster for Palestinians and hostage families alike.
“President Trump wants to back Prime Minister Netanyahu’s offensive with billions of dollars in new bombs and other munitions. These arms sales are both immoral and illegal – U.S. law prohibits arms sales to governments that commit war crimes or obstruct U.S. humanitarian aid. Senator Sanders’ joint resolutions of disapproval, as well as accompanying House resolutions from Representatives Jayapal and Tlaib, give Congress the chance to reject these sales and say: no more blank checks for war crimes. No more ignoring the law. And no more silence in the face of atrocities.
“This is not just a matter of foreign policy — it’s a matter of conscience. We urge members to vote for these joint resolutions of disapproval.”
