With Israel-Iran Tensions Escalating, the Choice Between War and Diplomacy Has Never Been More Stark

Washington – Win Without War Executive Director Sara Haghdoosti made the following statement in response to reports of possible new military escalation in the Middle East:
“We are alarmed by reports that the Israeli military is preparing an attack against Iran, and we call upon the Trump administration to immediately rein in Prime Minister Netanyahu. These threats are an obvious ploy to disrupt ongoing U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations.
“An accord that trades sanctions relief for limits on and monitoring of enrichment is the only proven method of preventing Iran’s government from developing a nuclear weapon. The Israeli government bombing Iran, on the other hand, will likely do little to disrupt the government’s nuclear program in the long term, but immediately risks igniting a cycle of escalation that endangers millions of lives across the region, including tens of thousands of Americans.
“69% of people in the United States prefer diplomacy over a new, grinding war in the Middle East. The Israeli government cannot prosecute a war against Iran without extensive U.S. support; Trump and all U.S. leaders who claim to want peace must use their considerable leverage to put a stop to Netanyahu’s reckless spoiler behavior.
