Trump’s Strikes on Iran are an Illegal and Dangerous Mistake

Washington – Win Without War Executive Director Sara Haghdoosti made the following statement in response to reports that the United States military has bombed the three nuclear facilities in Iran:
“We utterly condemn President Trump’s illegal and reckless attack on the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities in Iran, which forces the United States into hostilities without the Constitutionally required congressional approval.
“Now, Congress must immediately convene to pass war powers resolutions that block Trump from further escalation and demand diplomacy.
“This strike does not spell the end of the Iran government’s nuclear program, which can only be reliably constrained through the type of diplomatic engagement that Trump abandoned. Instead, it threatens to be the start of a much larger war, one which immediately endangers the lives of people in Iran, people in Israel, and U.S. servicemembers around the region. No one needs more endless wars, which are unpopular precisely because people understand through brutal experience how bloody, costly, and counterproductive they are.
“We call upon Congress to interrupt the cycle of escalation, exercise its constitutional authority to pull the U.S. out of this war, and use every tool at its disposal to reign in both Trump and Netanyahu before they plunge us deeper into this needless war.”
