Missile Strikes Continue Escalation Spiral in the Middle East

Washington – Win Without War Executive Director, Sara Haghdoosti, released the following statement responding to the Iranian government’s recent missile barrage against Israel:
“We condemn the Iranian government’s missile strikes against Israel, and we fear for the consequences of a growing confrontation between the governments of Israel and Iran. No one is made safer by spiraling escalation.
“Yesterday’s reports that the Israeli government is planning a ‘massive’ counterstrike with U.S. support are deeply alarming. A full-scale war between the governments of Israel and Iran would endanger millions of people, destabilize the region, and almost certainly draw in the United States.
“It is beyond time for the Biden administration to take stock of the situation and understand the necessity of using all the diplomatic tools available to de-escalate to avoid further catastrophic and senseless violence.
“Hawks are out in force today, embracing a regional war as an opportunity to once again ‘remake’ the Middle East, as if their last attempt didn’t produce a generational moral and strategic disaster.
“Make no mistake – those who would bear the brunt of a war with Iran are the people who have suffered the most harm at the hands of this Iranian government, and who are struggling to assert their rights and freedoms and have been doing so for generations. Burying people in Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, or anywhere under rubble isn’t liberation, no matter what Washington’s armchair generals say.”
