Disgusting Attacks on Haitian Communities Reminder of the Divisive MAGA Agenda

Washington – Win Without War Executive Director Sara Haghdoosti released the following statement on the far-right targeting of Haitian communities in the United States:
“It’s hard to know where to begin with former president Trump’s, and vice presidential nominee Vance’s, grotesque and contemptible lies about Haitian families living in the United States.
“This is ‘MAGA’ foreign policy in action.Trump and Vance’s racist rhetoric against Haitian immigrants is merely a prelude to the violence and displacement they’d enact here and abroad if elected. They’d tear children away from their parents, use federal agencies to push people out of homes and jobs they’ve known for decades, concentrate members of these and other communities in camps and push them across borders, while still trying to build symbolic, ineffectual walls in between – part of a widely advertised mass deportation campaign.
“If anything can be said for ‘MAGA’ foreign policy, it puts the lie to the notion that there are distinct and separate ‘foreign’ and ‘domestic’ policies. When it comes to Haiti in particular, U.S. fingerprints are all over the decades of coups, failed military interventions, and exploitative economic policies that created the kind of political instability that forces people to leave their homes to rebuild their lives elsewhere. Whether in Haiti, Yemen, or elsewhere, the military strikes and starvation sanctions ‘over there’ are inextricably linked to violence and oppression ‘here.’
“There’s no compromising with this kind of racism and xenophobia we’re seeing from the Trump-Vance campaign. Today we affirm that immigrants are welcome. The work to show up against the hatred we’re seeing, and pushing the U.S. government to uphold human rights and lead with compassion, will carry on well past November.”
