WashingtonWin Without War President Stephen Miles released the following statement regarding ongoing escalation between the Israeli government and Hezbollah:

“We are deeply alarmed by the ongoing violence and growing escalation in the confrontation between the Israeli government and Hezbollah. Already, hundreds of people in Lebanon are dead, and many thousands more on both sides of the border are fleeing their homes, following an exchange of missiles, rockets, and airstrikes that now threatens to explode into a catastrophic, widespread war.

“Full-scale war between the Israeli government and Hezbollah would threaten millions of lives in Israel, Lebanon, and across the Middle East – including those of the growing number of U.S. forces deployed there. No one’s security will be improved by such a war.

“We reiterate our call, together with a growing number of experts, members of Congress, and people around the globe who are urging the U.S. government to address the conflict that has driven much of the escalation at Israel’s northern border and throughout the region: the Israeli government’s war in Gaza.

“With careful diplomacy, a full-scale war between the Israeli government and Hezbollah remains avoidable today. We urge in the strongest possible terms the Biden administration to do everything it can – including finally using all the tools in its diplomatic toolkit – to secure a ceasefire and halt this deadly and dangerous spiral of escalation.”
