Did Your Rep. Vote to Cut the Pentagon Budget?

Cut the Pentagon Budget

Last Updated on December 13, 2021.

As people across the world continued to suffer through multiple crises in public health, inequality, climate change, and more, Congress authorized more than three quarters of a trillion dollars for the already-bloated Pentagon budget. They could have acted differently.

Representatives Mark Pocan and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced an amendment to the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to cut the Pentagon budget by 10%. Representatives Barbara Lee and Sara Jacobs also introduced an amendment that would have limited the Pentagon budget to the president’s suggested level, attempting to reverse an unnecessary $25 billion increase. Both of these amendments sought to limit wasteful Pentagon spending so those funds could be invested in critical human needs.

At the end of the day, the Pocan-AOC amendment received 86 votes and the Lee-Jacobs amendment received 142. With regard to the Lee-Jacobs amendment, getting the majority of the Democratic Caucus’ support is a momentous achievement for our movement — and proof of its growing power. But it wasn’t enough. Now, it’s time to tell your members of Congress how you feel about their votes.

Below, you will find a list of all the members of Congress who voted for at least one amendment (or both!) to cut the Pentagon budget and, instead, invest in our communities. If your member’s name is here, be sure to thank them for their support! If not, it’s time to hold them accountable.
