Congress Must Vote to End Trump’s Unauthorized War in Iran
Last Updated on April 3, 2026.
WASHINGTON – Ahead of expected votes on S.J.Res.104 and H.Con.Res.38, war powers resolutions to end Trump’s war on Iran, Win Without War Deputy Director Shayna Lewis released the following statement:
“The Trump administration illegally started a war on Iran with false accusations and no clear plan for how it ends. The consequences, while entirely foreseeable, are already devastating. Hundreds of people in Iran and dozens of others across Israel, Lebanon, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, and Oman have been killed, including children and 6 U.S. servicemembers.
“U.S. intelligence confirms that there was no imminent threat. The Iranian government does not have, and was not close to having, nuclear weapons. Just two days ago, Secretary of State Marco Rubio admitted that the U.S. acted in anticipation of Israeli strikes and the retaliation that might follow.
“We’re witnessing mindless violence rebranded as strategy.
“The president cannot unilaterally decide when the United States goes to war. This week, Congress must assert its war powers — and they must be unequivocal in acting to stop this war. This will be a defining test of whether our elected officials represent the clear preference of the people they represent, or whether they will choose to cheer on the bloodshed to curry favor with Trump and his failing administration.
“With public opposition to another endless war growing and millions at risk, a strong YES vote on these resolutions is the bare minimum. History will remember who stood up to save lives and end senseless violence, and who abandoned their moral and constitutional obligation to stop this war.”
