WashingtonWin Without War Executive Director Sara Haghdoosti released the following statement responding to the release of 16 prisoners held in Russia:

“Win Without War welcomes the release of 16 prisoners unjustly detained in Russia. Their detention by Putin’s government was unjustifiable and an affront to human decency.

“Thanks to the critical diplomacy of the Biden administration, families can be reunited and people who have spent months and years in deplorable conditions can walk free. Win Without War also applauds the work of Vice President Kamala Harris, who was reportedly a key figure, in ensuring that the release happened. In an era of self-defeating militarism, the release is a reminder that diplomacy actually achieves results.”
