Senate Must Block Weapons Sales Enabling War and Chaos Across Middle East

WASHINGTON — Win Without War Government Relations Director Eric Eikenberry released the following statement ahead of Senate votes on S.J.Res.138 and S.J.Res.32, resolutions to halt the sale of 1,000-pound bombs and bulldozers to the Israeli government:
“Today, Congress has an immediate opportunity to prevent further escalation of the U.S. and Israeli governments’ disastrous war of choice now engulfing much of the Middle East. The Senate must pass Sen. Sanders’ joint resolutions blocking the transfer of 1,000-pound bombs and bulldozers to the Israeli government.
“These votes come at a pivotal moment. The Israeli government has indicated its intent to replicate the ‘Rafah model’ in Lebanon — demolishing border communities, displacing civilians, and expanding a campaign of destruction already seen across Gaza and the West Bank — all while a fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire hangs in the balance. How Congress votes will help determine whether the United States continues a blank-check approach to fueling widespread violence and chaos in the Middle East, or begins to draw a line.
“Sending more weapons into this conflict sends the wrong signal — to the administration, to Prime Minister Netanyahu, and to those on the ground whose lives are at stake. Senators cannot credibly oppose this regional war while continuing to supply the means to wage it.”
