The Biden Administration must condemn the appalling strikes in Rafah

Washington – Win Without War Executive Director Sara Haghdoosti released the following statement responding to deadly Israeli air strikes on Rafah resulting in the death of dozens of civilians.
“The Biden Administration must join other world leaders in condemning the latest horrific strikes in Rafah and calling for an immediate end to the current offensive. President Biden has repeatedly stated his opposition to the offensive now unfolding amid near-universal alarm that any Israeli military operation in Gaza would inevitably lead to the kinds of horrific scenes we are sadly now seeing take place. President Biden needs to now make it unequivocally clear that not another bomb will go to the Netanyahu government that has so consistently and clearly flouted international norms and laws.
“The Israeli government’s statements calling this incident ‘an accident’ and that they used precision weapons and took steps to avoid casualties are markedly different from their actions. The Israeli government was warned by the International Court of Justice, humanitarian organizations, world leaders, and countless others that an invasion of Rafah would result in exactly this kind of innocent death. Moving forward in the face of such overwhelming opposition was a deadly choice and they cannot absolve themselves of accountability by now calling it an accident. Their military operation in Rafah has displaced hundreds of thousands, prevented critical humanitarian supplies from entering, and now, once again, supposed targeted strikes are killing a disproportionate number of women and children in horrifyingly cruel ways.
“It is well past the time for an end to semantic debates about the nature of the Israeli military operation in Rafah, and more importantly an end to the operation itself. It’s also well past time for the Biden Administration to take action, to enforce US laws and stop weapons shipments.”
