Win Without War Condemns Trump’s Calls for Political Violence, Supports Members Opposing Unlawful Orders

WASHINGTON Win Without War released the following statement in response to President Trump’s calls for violence against members of Congress:

“President Trump’s disturbing and extreme reaction to a video by six members of Congress, including five veterans and one former national security official, discussing the need for servicemembers to refuse unlawful orders is sadly no surprise. This president has made clear that any affirmation or exercise of Constitutional rights is considered a threat to his presumed power.

“We utterly condemn his dangerous call to arrest and execute elected officials.

“As Win Without War’s ‘Know Your Rights’ campaign and independent legal analysis and reporting have underscored, Trump and his senior officials have forced our servicemembers into legally murky—and at times blatantly illegal—missions. Trump’s violent militarization of our communities and unauthorized strikes on boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific have only increased servicemember risk and their likelihood of individual legal liability, while recklessly threatening the safety of millions.

“We need more elected officials speaking out like these six members have. We thank Senators Slotkin and Kelly, and Representatives Crow, Houlahan, Deluzio, and Goodlander, for their courageous leadership, and urge them to press on.”
