Win Without War Welcomes House Resistance to Wasteful Pentagon Plus-Up

WASHINGTON – In response to the House Armed Services Committee markup of H.R.8800, the FY27 National Defense Authorization Act, Win Without War Government Relations Director Eric Eikenberry released the following statement:

“Late last night, the House Armed Services Committee jammed through an exorbitant and wasteful military authorization package that will starve vital government programs for the sake of funding President Trump’s endless wars and authoritarian overreach.

“The bill is a travesty, made only clearer by the hours of debate and discord that unfolded during markup and the unusually high level of dissent that characterized its final vote out of committee.

“This year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) requires communities across the United States to swallow a rotten deal: pay $1.5 trillion for Trump’s wars and personal vanity projects at the expense of programs that keep people truly safe, healthy, and resilient.

“We thank the 25 members who voted for a Rep. Moulton-led amendment to cut $150 billion from the bill, and we extend even deeper gratitude to the 12 members – Reps. Jacobs, Khanna, Crow, Moulton, Garamendi, Deluzio, Ryan, Keating, Carbajal, Goodlander, Elfreth, and Bell — who voted against reporting the bill out of committee. We urge the rest of the House to follow these members’ lead when the NDAAcomes before the whole chamber this summer.”
