Momentum Builds Against Runaway Pentagon Spending in the House

Washington – Win Without War Government Relations Director Eric Eikenberry released the following statement in response to the House Appropriations Committee’s passage of the Defense Appropriations Act.
“We are outraged that the House Appropriations Committee advanced a trillion-dollar war funding bill while communities across the country face cuts to health care, food assistance, housing, education, and other essential services. By advancing this bill, a narrow and out-of-touch congressional majority is choosing weapons and endless war over people’s needs.
“There is a silver lining yet: Yesterday’s vote also demonstrated growing resistance to President Trump’s and Secretary Hegseth’s $1.5 trillion Pentagon spending agenda. 27 members – nearly half the committee – opposed reporting the bill to the floor. Every vote against the appropriation, authorization, and reconciliation bills undergirding Trump’s disastrous war budget helps build the leverage needed to challenge his agenda of violence, suffering, and contractor payouts.
“As the appropriations process moves forward, Congress must reject efforts to pour even more tax dollars into a Pentagon that cannot pass an audit while vital domestic programs face devastating cuts. Americans deserve a budget that invests in real security — more money for bombs and bloodshed fails us all.”
