More Action Needed to Save Lives in Sudan
Last Updated on August 1, 2024.
Washington – Win Without War Executive Director Sara Haghdoosti released the following statement responding to the passage of a United Nations Security Council Resolution on the continued crisis in Sudan:
“We are grateful for the recent action by the United Nations Security Council demanding immediate, lifesaving action to halt the horrific human suffering in Darfur and urge the Biden Administration to continue to push for peace in Sudan’s brutal civil war.
“The Biden Administration was right to elevate this dangerous crisis with the appointment of a Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, and we encourage the Administration and Congress to fully support his important work.
“The scenes of famine and death across Sudan should shock our collective conscience, but tragically, they have too often been ignored by policymakers eager to avoid our shared responsibility for this human-created crisis. That the current siege of El Fashir in the Darfur region is a disturbing echo of our two decade old failures in Darfur, should be a call to action to not just stop this humanitarian crisis, but finally reform our government and international systems to prevent atrocities like this before they begin and bring genuine accountability and justice to make sure they never happen again.”
