No one is above the law

WashingtonWin Without War Executive Director Sara Haghdoosti released the following statement responding to reports of the ICC prosecutor seeking arrest warrants against senior Hamas leaders and Israeli government officials for alleged war crimes.

“We welcome and support the ICC prosecutor’s decision to request warrants for senior Hamas leaders and Israeli government officials, as part of a process to enforce international law and norms in response to the conflict in Palestine and Israel. The families who suffered horrific crimes at the hands of Hamas on October 7th, and the millions of people in Gaza who are enduring famine and indiscriminate bombings at the hands of the Israeli government, deserve justice.

“No one is above the law. We utterly condemn threats from Congress to sanction the court. Such attacks on the ICC will only reduce already historically low trust in key institutions at a pivotal moment in U.S. democracy, while further isolating the U.S. on the world stage.

“The ICC can provide a clear path to justice. We hope the prosecutor’s request is a first step toward accountability and a reminder to leaders that when they choose violence and cruelty, they will not do so with impunity. That is a key change we need to see to pave the way for sustainable regional peace, in which everyone in Israel and Palestine can live with dignity and thrive without the fear of violence.”
