WASHINGTON, DC — Win Without War Director Stephen Miles released the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s veto of S.J.Res.7, the Yemen war powers resolution passed by a bipartisan majority of Congress demanding an end to U.S. military involvement in the Saudi- and Emirati-led intervention in Yemen:

“Donald Trump’s veto today is reckless and shameful. Sadly, it is also to be expected from a President who has pretended to be a champion of peace while actually expanding every war he inherited and putting us on a collision course to war with Iran.

“With strong bipartisan majorities, Congress acted to end our nation’s counterproductive and harmful involvement in the Saudi- and Emirati-led intervention in Yemen. They did so because hundreds of thousands of Americans demanded action, and this veto will only bolster their resolve to fight for peace.

“Sadly, the violence and suffering in Yemen continues, and Donald Trump’s apparent willingness to make the United States a client state of Saudi Arabia and the UAE will only further the tremendous human costs of that war. Congress must now use every legislative vehicle available to end all U.S. support for this war, support pathways to peace, and continue to reclaim its sole constitutional authority to decide when and where our nation goes to war.”
