WASHINGTON — Win Without War Director Stephen Miles released the following statement regarding today’s inter-Korea summit:
“We celebrate South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as a historic opportunity for peace on the Korean peninsula and a victory for Moon’s diplomatic efforts, the Korean people, and the rest of the world.
“While both sides have made positive first steps toward ending the conflict and denuclearizing the Korean peninsula, the road ahead will be long and challenging.
“The United States should seize on this opportunity to reduce tensions with North Korea and follow President Moon’s lead in helping to secure the Korean peninsula with a lasting peace.
“At the same time, we should remain vigilant that there is still a loud chorus in Washington, including many inside the Trump administration in key positions of power, who want war with North Korea and may try to use this diplomatic moment as a pretext for war.
“We stand ready to vigorously oppose their efforts and to do everything in our power to help ensure that this diplomatic process is a pretext for lasting and sustainable peace on the Korean peninsula.”
